Redlands, California Toyota Accelerator Pedal Defect Lawyer
In its product liability practice, Welebir Tierney & Weck are current on and moving on the issues of the ongoing problem of the sticking accelerator pedals mechanisms of Toyota vehicles. The resulting unintended acceleration problem of multiple Toyota makes, models and model years appears to be resulting from as yet unidentified electronic defects right down to problems with the interfacing of mechanical components. There are reports also that this problem is resulting from cracked shaft throttle bodies which results in wide open acceleration.
Toyota Sticking Accelerator Problems & Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA)
Originally Toyota blamed Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA) solely on unsecured and wandering all-weather floor mats but it appears that SUA is a much more complex design issue that may be resulting from lack of electromagnetic compatibility and safety compliance; or problems with the onboard computers; or with electrical components; or even the failure of the cruise control system. The SUA’s have been called “braking problems” which they are not and they have occurred in Toyota models that do not have the all-weather floor mats. Also Toyota lacks the brake-to-idle failsafe system that many other auto manufacturers provide which brings the engine to idle when there is a problem between the brake and the accelerator.
