Bicycle Helmets are Recalled

Did you know that approximately 14 percent of people harmed in a traffic accident are on a bicycle?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 69 percent of all bike accident deaths occur in urban areas while 64 percent occur at non-intersection locations. I wonder what percentage were wearing safe bicycle helmets. However, not all bicycle helmets are safe.

Attention all bike riders: The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bell Sports announced a recall of about 31,000 BMX bike helmets due to the risk of a heady injury.

If you own one of these helmets, sold exclusively at Toys R Us, stop using this product and call the manufacturer for a full refund. A consumer has the right to expect a product to function properly and safely when it is used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The recall involves the Bell Exodus full-face helmets with a plastic buckle on the chinstrap. It can release in the event of an accident and allow the helmet to fall off the rider – posing a risk of head injury. The helmet sold for about $60. The helmet has a UPC Code 035011937052 and part number 1009159 printed on a label on the side of the helmet shell.

The company has received one report of a buckle failing during an accident, resulting in an injury that required stitches below the rider’s eye.

Defective products come in all shapes and sizes. The injuries which occur as a result of these can be severe or fatal.

If you have one of these defective helmets and have gotten injured because of it, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in product liability cases. Call the Law Offices of Welebir | Tierney to discuss your claim for compensation.
