The safety of patients in a Mental Health Rehabilitation Center in Long Beach is being questioned.
According to employees who work at the facility, mentally ill patients regularly escape from the facility – 29 were reported last year; in addition, they have also struck and injured several employees allegedly. Some patients have climbed trees hopped fences or just walk away when they have the opportunity.
They not only put themselves in danger, but the community as well.
Managers insist that the facility is well-run and employees should know there are inherent risks to their jobs.
Elected officials in the city are calling for additional scrutiny of the county-contracted facility – just to make sure everything is safe and sound. One official stated that “This is a very serious issue for me. Having clients assaulting staff, that is a serious concern.” He has asked the State Department of Health Care Services to investigate safety issues.
Employees insist they need more staff, including a security guard and more training to handle psychotic patients.
If you have a loved one inside this or any other facility and question their safety, it would be best for you to contact an experienced personal injury attorney who can advise you or your legal rights and stand up for the rights of your loved one.
